Furfuryl alcohol is also called furancarbinol,its molecular formula is C5H6O2 and its molecular weight 98.10(according to lntl Relative Atomatic Mass 1987).
Furfuryl alcohol is a colorless or light yellow transparent lipuid with a little bitter smell,can dissolve in water,is unstable in water,is apt to dissolve in alcohol,ether,etc.organic solvents,doesn`t dissolve in paraffin hydrocarbon and is apt to be resinified when meeting with acids.lts color will deepens because of condensation action when deposited in air.
Industrial furfuryl alcohol is mainly used to manufacture furfuryl alcohol resin,which is used as binder of sand core of thermal core shooting box in precise foundry industry.Also furfuryl alcohol is used to manufacture tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol,anti-corrosion coating,etc. and used as solvents,thinner or other organic raw material.
